Diagnostic Panels by Clinical Presentation

This page maps common clinical presentations to recommended POCT panels — so you can order the right tests the first time.

Panel Recommendations

Presentation Recommended Panel
Acute vomiting/diarrhea (puppy) CPV Ag + CRP
Acute vomiting/diarrhea (cat) FPV Ag + SAA
Dyspnea / cough NT-proBNP (+ CRP if inflammatory)
PU/PD (polyuria/polydipsia) SDMA + T4 + cortisol
Fever of unknown origin SAA/CRP + FeLV/FIV (cat)
Weight loss / lethargy T4 + SDMA + FeLV/FIV
Breeding management Progesterone + relaxin
Pre-anesthetic (geriatric) SDMA + NT-proBNP

Why Panels Beat Single Tests

A panel answers the differential in one visit. For example, a dyspneic dog needs NT-proBNP (cardiac?) and may need CRP (inflammatory?). Running both simultaneously on a multi-channel analyzer (FIA880) cuts total time.

The FIA880 Advantage

The six-channel FIA880 runs mixed panels in a single cycle — ideal for the multi-parameter panels above.

FAQ

Why test CRP with CPV in a puppy? CPV confirms the infection; CRP quantifies the inflammatory severity and helps monitor treatment response.

Which panel for a geriatric pre-anesthetic screen? SDMA (renal) + NT-proBNP (cardiac) — the two silent diseases that most affect anesthetic risk.
